The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved tadalafil (Cialis) for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men aged 18 and older. Tadalafil, the active ingredient in Cialis, is also prescribed for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is the regulatory authority for the administration of pharmaceutical drugs that treat ED.
Tadalafil is a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). Tadalafil works by relaxing the smooth muscle in the penis, thereby increasing blood flow to the area. It does not cause an erection in the absence of sexual stimulation. Tadalafil relaxes the blood vessels in the penis, allowing increased blood flow to the area. This can help men achieve and maintain an erection during sexual activity.
Tadalafil is not approved for use in children. However, it is indicated for the treatment of adult men aged 18 and older.
Tadalafil is also prescribed to treat high blood pressure, as it relaxes the blood vessels in the lungs, reducing the workload on the heart and improving exercise capacity.
For more information, see the “About the FDA” section.
